Meettaatha Oru Veenai

Song : Meettaatha Oru Veenai
Movie Name : Poonthottam
Singer : Hariharan, Mahalakshmi Iyer
Music Director : Illayaraja

How is it possible that you can listen to a song and tell almost surely thats its composed by Illayaraja ? I saw the movie Amadeus and was thinking about Illayaraja all through. Its said that Emperor Joseph II remarked "Too many notes in your music!" and when I saw this scene in the movie, I thought "Thats so apt for Illayaraja". This is not the most intricate of his compositions, but for people who are quick to write off Illayaraja, this song should serve as a warning (as would songs in lots of other later movies). What I like about this song, is how the intricacy is in the vocals, in addition to the orchestrization. The synthesizer adds the zing to this song that it deserves. Hariharan and Mahalakshmi Iyer are fabulous as always!
