Merke Merke

Song : Merke Merke
Movie Name : Kanda Naal Mudhal
Singer : Shankar Mahadevan, Sadhana Sargam
Music Director : Yuvan Shankar Raja

I didnt like this song initially since the starting was ripped off from MJ's "Give in to me", and I absolutely hate it when I see Yuvan copying anyone. I am one of those few people who want Yuvan to genuinely shine. Anyway, I saw this movie over the weekend and this song (although picturised in a regular orthodox way), did leave its mark. Its the agony you could sense in Shankar's voice coupled with the good movie that it was I guess. I dont want to give too many points to Yuvan on this, but all in all, a good song.

Achata Ichata

Song : Achata Ichata
Movie Name : Allari Bullodu
Singer : Keeravani, Chitra
Music Director : Keeravani

Keeravani is one of my favourite music directors and nothing makes me more happy than seeing him bounce back with good songs every now and then (Anukokunda Oka Roju is a good movie for that). I was seeing Allari Bullodu over the weekend and midst the mindless junk, Keeravani could find inspiration to come up with some nice songs. This trademark Keeravani-KRR song (also sung by Keeravani), reminded me of the brilliance of him in movies like Kshana Kshanam (Listen to the BGM during the scene where Venkatesh helps Sridevi get out of the pit while in the jungle, its based on the interludes in "Jaamu Rathiri"). Is it the same raagam ? I need to look into it further.

My favourite part of this song are the charanams with the intertwining violins, guitars and keyboard where Keeravani shows his class effortlessly.

Eno Kangal

Song : Eno Kangal
Movie Name : Kalvanyn Kadhali
Singer : Yuvan , Sadhana Sargam
Music Director : Yuvan Shankar Raja

"Hey yo Yuvan, You there ? " Oh yeah, he is there! This is yet another foot tapping number from Yuvan. The song starts with Sadhana singing softly "Eno kangal un mugame ketkirade..?" and she gives her characteristic melodious touch to the song, and just liek that, the song shifts gears and Yuvan picks up the tempo with "Adi naakkule mookkule, paechille moochille unakkidu puriyaada ? ". Yuvan's voice sounds amusing cos' of his nasal accent, and I sincerely wish, he begins to realize this before he ends up being criticised. I think he has chosen the best song of this album for himself.

My other picks : Enakenna Aachi ? by Ranjith
