Enni Aasalo

Song : Enni Aasalo
Movie Name : Jai
Singer : Shreya Ghosal
Music Director : Anoop

That will teach me not to get biased reading music reviews. I am sure I heard the songs of Jai long ago, but with a bias against them unfortunately. There was talk of Anoop being only a keyboard player for RP Patnaik, and music not being upto the mark. Today when I heard the songs of Jai, they werent bad at all! And I liked this particular song. Shreya Ghosal is slowly getting popular. I know her pronunciation is not flawless, but her voice is definitely something that deserves attention, and IMHO her voice doesnt have the hindi-accent that Asha or Lataji had. This particular number is definitely an algorithm-based typical RP-like song. But yeah, a sucker for melody (like me) will definitely fall in love with it.

Aa antae

Song : Aa antae
Movie Name : Arya
Singer : Malathi & Ranjith
Music Director : Devisri Prasad

If not for an everlasting melody, it is the freshness in songs that attracts me. Devi's latest offering - Arya. Although my expectations werent too high from this particular album, I loved this song. The lyrics are weirdly funny. And like I said, I am in "mass-mood" today. The second interlude in this song is my favourite. "Koncham beat marchandraa baabu!!" ... "Iragadeesindu" hillarious!! And then the melodious flute bit comes back after a while. Devi is really mastering mass songs and I hope it helps him get settled at Tollywood!

Gongura thota kaada

Song : Gongura thota kaada
Movie Name : Venky
Singer : P Kuppuswamy & Kalpana
Music Director : Devisri Prasad

Total mass mood today. Devi Sri Prasad is turning out to be one of my favourite MDs. Gongura thota kaada is once again in typical Devi style. Devi cannot compromise on melody even in mass songs I guess :) There seems to be a similarity between this song and his mass songs in Anandam and Sontham. A nice tune, a simple rap in between and a nice naatu beat! Ravi Teja and Sneha combination somehow seems to be just appropriate for this song (I have seen only a small trailer bit so far)

Siri siri Poola

Song : Siri siri Poola
Movie Name :Gandeevam
Singer : SPB & Chitra
Music Director : M.M.Keeravani

A melodious composition by Keeravani garu. The situation for this song is aptly reflected in the alapana by SPB. ANR is worried by three different persons' claims as inheritors to his property. Taking Nagesh's suggestion, he starts off on the childhood song, which he hopes his true offspring would continue. The song pauses at the right places for the mood of the situation. The voice modulations by SPB, the part where Chitra joins, and the part where Keervani chips in are just right! The song caught my attention initially for the humour generated by the part where Brahmanandam starts singing , but I have lot more respect for Keeravani garu when I listen to this song today.

Veena Venuvaina

Song : Veena Venuvaina
Movie Name :Intinti Ramayanam
Singer : SPB & P Suseela
Music Director : Rajan Nagendra

Raagam : Hindolam
This song has the signature of Rajan-Nagendra all over it! In their time, the duo of Rajan-Nagendra probably gave a stiff competition to even RD Burman in having haunting numbers. I have had this song at the back of my mind ever since I heard it in my childhood days for the sheer melody in it. When I heard it today, the veena notes in the prelude, and the effective use of strings as chords just enhanced the effect of this song. I guess this is a perfect example of a song where the chords leave a memorable impact on the listener.

Vennelai Paadana

Song : Vennelai Paadana
Movie Name :Sri Kanakamahalaxmi Recording Dance Troup
Singer : SPB & S.Janaki
Music Director : Illayaraja

Vamsy and Raja combination says it all! "How many times can the Raja-Vamsy-SPB-Janaki combination do it ??" , you wonder ... and here they are again. I cant help smiling to myself when I come to the charanam of this song. As one of my friends pointed out, the first interlude has SPB and Janaki singing
Janaki: Nee
SPB: Ni sa ree
Janaki: Sa
SPB: Sa ri gaa
Janaki: Pa ni saaa, da ni pa ...
When you see the picturization of this one the screen, its just amazing! (Naresh trying to balance himself while sitting on a rotating potter's wheel while Madhuri keeps roating the wheel). This is what I would call portrayal of music.
